The Well and The Water

We hired a well drilling contractor to drill us a "shallow" well (60-85 feet). We hit water between 40-60 feet; the water looked clear and tasted fine, but when we got the water analysis back we found the water was extremely hard, had exceptionally high iron content (it has more iron than Pittsburgh!), and, worst of all, contained arsenic. So then we had to also buy a water softener, an iron remover, and an arsenic filter.

In order to get the water sample for analysis, we had to have the well pump going for 72+ hours (we used a generator). We put an extra hydrant near the house to use for the garden (or whatever).

The trench to the house.

Money Spent (Well): $8000
drilling: $4500
pump: $3500

Money Spent (Water) (so far): $1280
well water testing: $113
whole house iron filter: $399
whole house water softener: $518
arsenic and ceramic under counter filter system: $250
